"Refresh my memory, there are so many Juans," said a puzzled Hernandez. The man described himself as slim with "a very nice butt." Eventually, the caller offered to give Hernandez his phone number -- then announced that the conversation was being broadcast live nationwide on the "Raul Brindis and Pepito Show," a Spanish-language morning radio program.
"Why did these people have to treat me this way?" Hernandez said of his public outing, which led the Federal Communications Commission to fine the station owner $28,000 this year. "Why the hell do they think I deserved something so brutal and humiliating?"
Such on-air mockery of gay men, lesbians and transgender people is common on Spanish-language radio and television, media watchers say, and it has raised the ire of gay rights groups.

You know, Mrs. Blessed, I'm trying to expand my horizons, but not with much success. Not being a Spanish speaker (nor a Selective Polyglot), I had to turn to an online Spanish-English dictionary to help me with the title of this post. I already knew (osmosis?) that "mira" means "look." But three different online Spanish-English dictionaries have given me "no results found" when I plugged in "jotos." Can you help a poor old monoglot?
I did like your "Selective Polyglot" post very much, but I didn't even think of it when I wrote the title of my post, sorry. :)
"Joto" is slang for "fag." "Pinche joto" is a very common phrase where I grew up; I imagine you can guess what "pinche" means.
"Mira los jotos" means "Look at the fags." And talking about and making fun of and otherwise debasing faggotry is all in good fun in the Mexican culture. This is not the "family value" that neo-Cons have in mind when they praise brown diversity, I imagine.
